Four things worth knowing before your first conversation — the basics that shape how Filipino professionals work, get paid, and plan their year.

Salary is received either once or twice per month, depending on the arrangement.
In the Philippines, employees enjoy 5 days of paid leave each year through the “service incentive leave” perfect for vacation or sick days.
They also receive a 13th month salary, equal to one whole month’s pay. Typically given on December 24th, some employers split it, with half paid in June. It’s also important to note that the 13th month pay is separate from any Holiday bonuses employers offer.
Overtime essentials
Filipino professionals typically work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, totaling 40 hours. Any extra time counts as overtime—paid 25% above the regular rate. During holidays or rest days, this increases to 30%.
Guaranteed rest days
A full workweek is rewarded with a minimum of 24 consecutive hours of rest. It’s a non-negotiable right.
Two provisions matter most in your first year with a Filipino Ally — how holiday work is compensated, and how the probationary window operates.
Holiday premiums
Work during holidays? It’s double the usual pay — acknowledging dedication on special days.
Probationary period
In the Philippines, new hires generally go through a 6-month probationary period — a window for evaluation and alignment.

Vacation leave
Filipino employees enjoy 12 paid holiday leaves and 3 unpaid special non-working holiday leaves annually. If required to work on these days, they’re compensated at twice their regular rate. After 12 months of service, they also earn 5 paid “Service Incentive Leaves,” which can be used for vacation or sick days.
Sick leave
Paid sick leaves are covered under “Service Incentive Leaves.” Outside of this, sick days are typically unpaid unless otherwise stated in the employment terms.
Both sides have clear obligations. Knowing them upfront keeps transitions smooth and protects the working relationship.
Resignations
Employees are required to provide a 30-day notice before leaving, ensuring the company has ample time to make necessary adjustments and cover the role seamlessly.
Terminations
Any employer can willfully terminate an employee due to either serious misconduct or habitual neglect. This can be exercised immediately or upon a given time by the employer.
